Why do we have rules in school?

In year 2 today, we discussed why it is important to have rules in school.  Here are some of the ideas the children came up with.

The children were then asked to think about what would happen if they came into their classroom in the morning and there were no teachers or adults.  The children came up with some great ideas, a lot of which involved partying, dancing and eating all day!  At first they seemed quite excited at the prospect of a rule free day, but then we went on to discuss the negative impact that it would have.  The children agreed that the novelty would most likely wear off after a while and they would miss having a calm and safe environment in which to learn.

Peake's Plants

As part of their Science work for this term (living things and their habitats), year 2 have been busy planting their own bulbs and will be looking after them as they grow.  We have reminded ourselves about what plants need in order to grow and we will be keeping track of the different stages as they develop into healthy plants.

Our PSHE tree has blossomed!

It's that time again where the children in Fiennes class have been reflecting on what they have achieved during the Spring term.  With a focus on the personal attributes, each member of the class created a flower outlining something they have achieved or are proud of.  I think you'll agree that the tree is looking beautiful and full of wonderful achievements.  Well done class Fiennes!

Brilliant Book Corner

Peake class were excited to receive a special gold award for our interesting and inspiring reading corner.

We are now looking after Bartholomew the reading Bear who will stay with us until next term.

Shark Attack! Maths rounding.

In Maths, we have been learning how to round to the nearest ten and how this can help us estimate answers for addition and subtraction.

The children used a rhyme, which focuses on the ones digit, to help them:

1,2,3,4 round down to the ten before
5,6,7,8,9 round up to the next ten on the number line.

We also watched this video:

Each child was given a number card.  They then had to decide whether they needed to round their number up or down and then find the island with their multiple of ten in order to avoid being caught by the shark (the teachers).
