Maths day 25.2.15

We started the day by reading a book called The Greedy Triangle. We then talked about 2D shapes and how we could make patterns by using tesselllation. Can you remember what this means?
Emma from Bramble said "Tessellation is where you stick shapes together so there's no gaps."

We experimented with tessellating shapes in the classroom and in the afternoon we went to the ICT suite and investigated Tessellation on the computer.

Ava from Bramble said "This was a bit difficult but you could try it at home so you can get better."
The website you need is 'Tessellation town.'

Ben from Bramble said "Make sure there's no gaps with the puzzle pieces as you go along."

Vladimirs from Bramble said " The houses were tricky because there was always a gap at the end of the row."

Can you find  2 different shapes that tessellate?

Friday 13 February 2015

This week we were researching in our Computing lessons. We found out about St Valentine and the origins of Valentine's Day.

Did you know?

Valentine was a priest, who married couples.  Isabella - Bramble Class

Emperor Claudius banned marriage because he wanted the men to join his army. He thought that if they were not married, then they would be happy to fight and not miss home. Jay - Bramble Class.

Valentine married couples in secret. He was caught and put in prison. Joseph and Luke - Thistle Class.

People who cared about him, threw flowers and letters up to his jail window. Marcus and Jake - Thistle Class.

Interpreting data 6.2.15

Year 2 looked at pictograms this week and asked and answered questions about them. There were different types of questions such as How many?, How many more than? and How many fewer than?
Don't forget you can try these again at home if you go on the top marks website.
Hannah from Class Thistle said she enjoyed working with her partner answering the questions from all the different graphs.
